Burt, 24x16" pastel portrait

This young fella really enjoys the beach!  It was fun to do the portrait of such a lively, congenial youngster.  I posted the portrait of his brother "Yogi" last November which was also a 24x16".

Orange Pekoe with Orange, 7x5" daily oil painting

This is a still life of a green tinted glass tea cup with a tea bag in it and an orange.  There is blue-green drapery behind and under the cup and orange.

Faded Morning-glory, 5"x7" daily pastel painting - SOLD

I saw this Morning Glory at the end of this last summer. The blue Morning Glories fade to a purple color at the end of the season. I loved the pinwheel pattern in the center of the flower.

Toward the Light, 7x5" daily oil painting - SOLD

I loved the way these philodendron leaves gracefully flowed "Toward the Light" of the window.

Odd One Out, 7x5" daily oil painting - SOLD

This is a still life of two green apples and an orange sitting on a patterned surface.  The orange does not quite fit in and stays off to the side.

Aqua Dancer, 7x5" daily oil painting

This aqua dancer is in a classic ballet position. I wanted to convey the movement with the brushstrokes. It is very similar to the golden dancer that I finished earlier, except the dancer is looking up and it is from a different viewpoint.

Lydia in the Sun, 7x5" daily oil on canvas

Last Fall, I shot the reference photo for this painting. Lydia was playing in the grass; she loves being outside. The sun was just at the right angle when she peeked out from behind some tall grass.

Isabella with Kitty, 14x11" pastel portrait

This was such a sweet photo of this beautiful little girl who loved her kitten so much.  Her Grandmother commissioned the portrait and it was a joy to do!

Morning After Ice Storm, 7x5" daily oil on canvas

This is from a reference photo that I took awhile back. It was just as the sun was coming up after a terrible ice storm. The sunlight was glistening off the branches on the trees.

Apples and Apple, 7x5" daily oil on canvas

I like red apples and my husband likes green. Any way you compare them, I think that they complement each other.

Brass Planter, 7x5" daily oil on canvas

This pretty brass planter sits on a shelf close to a window. I have watered the philodendron once a week for years. Today I noticed the lovely colors, the curves and the reflections in the brass.

Aqua Lotus, 5x7" daily oil on canvas

I was feeling anxious about things going on in the world and decided to paint something soothing and serene.  I painted the lotus aqua because that color is especially peaceful.

Squash Blossom, 5x7" daily oil on canvas

Last summer I saw this beautiful squash plant growing spontaneously on the side of the drive way. It was in the morning and the blossom was a brilliant yellow in the pale dawn. The insects had already begun their daily dance in the pollen.

Year of the Tiger, 7x5" daily oil on canvas

In honor of the Chinese New Year which starts Feb. 14th, I decided to paint a tiger. 2010 is the year of the tiger. This powerful symbol ushers in a year of excitement and courage. May the influence of this noble beast help to turn around the current malaise of the world.

This painting is of our dog, sweet Lydia, the little scamp. I took this reference photo during the Fall when she was running around in the grass.

Apples and Orange, 7x5" daily oil - SOLD

This painting is of a simple still life of two apples and an orange. I was putting food away from the grocery store and noticed how much I liked the red of the apples against the orange. There is a slight reflection of the fruit on the table.

Fall Flutter, 5x7" daily oil on canvas

This painting was inspired by the windy Fall colors. From the upstairs window I was watching the maple leaves fluttering in the wind. It was really windy and the feeling of Winter was in the air. The sun glistened on the tips of the leaves and occasionally glimpses of the turquoise sky peaked through.

Chalaya, 14x11" pastel

I loved doing the portrait of this beautiful little girl!  The colors were great, her dress is so delicate and the pillow added so much to the composition.
